Mimbres Coil vases October 15, 2009

The 8th graders have been hard at work making coil vases in the style of Mimbres pottery.  The Mimbres, an ancient Native American people, are part of the cultural history of the American Southwest.Mimbres pottery are known for geometric patterns in black and white.  After creating these coil vases and bowls, the students will glaze the pots with their own geometric black and white designs.

Below is a traditional Mimbres vase, as well as the students’ in-progress coil vases.
