The 3rd graders recently finished a project focusing on textile arts. They learned about the traditional art of molas from the Kuna people (where Panama and Colombia now are). Molas are typically made by the technique of applique, but the students used paper for their cut layers. Mola is a word in the Kuna language that translates to “shirt” in English. Fabric was used for the final layer. Similar to Kuna molas, the 3rd graders chose animals and plants as their subject matter.
