Cambridgeport History Weekend September 30, 2010

Filed under: news — alaplante @ 1:57 pm

This weekend, our 4th graders will be in an art show at Gallery 263.  They made maps of their Cambridgeport, in a variety of styles and mediums.  In addition to the art show, the neighborhood is hosting other related activities.  Please visit Gallery 263’s website, and Cambridge Historical Society’s website for more information.

Also, don’t forget to check out the 4th graders’ work!  The gallery will be open on Friday from 6-7:30 and Saturday and Sunday from 1-5pm.

Updates for the week September 28, 2010

It’s still too early in the school year for finished art projects, but i am sharing some works in progress.

First, the Artists of the Week board is a new thing in the Art Studio.  Every week, I will hang 2-4 students’ work up in my classroom, just to feel a  little extra special! (the names have been photoshopped out of this photo, sorry).

The second graders are just starting their Oaxacan animal sculptures.  Here are a couple wooden creations before they begin painting tomorrow.  Look out for “Dress like a Oaxacan Animal Day”.

The 3rd graders are plotting their secret art project.  Before i can reveal exactly what it is, here are some Christo and Jeanne-Claude inspired drafts for wrapping up the courtyard.  If you are unfamiliar with this artist duo, definitely check out their work!

Stained Glass September 23, 2010

Mrs. Walsh’s class has brightened the Art Studio.  Using laminator plastic and tissue paper, the students created colorful windows for my classroom.  In one set of panels, they kept similar colors together, while in the others, they used any color but added a tree silhouette on top.

We’ve been in school for 2 weeks now, and I’m very overdue for an update!

The year has gotten off to a great start, our first art show is already in the works.  Updates about the 4th graders’ maps at Gallery 263 will be coming soon.

I will try to make updates about twice a week with photos of student work and shows, as well as helpful information for parents.

At the K-5 Open House, look for me at an information/recruiting table for the Morse Arts Committee, a volunteer parent organization that helps me put on many wonderful art shows every year.

Photos coming soon!
