The 4th graders are in the middle of a unit on Chinese brush painting.  They are using india ink and bamboo brushes, and will soon use rice paper.  After practicing some traditional brush strokes, the students had a chance to experiment on their own.  Their challenge was to create as many unique brush strokes as possible with the bamboo brush.  They tried changing the way they hold the brush, twisting the handle, rolling the brush, using extra water, dotting the brush, etc.  They came up with some great results!
