Well, I didn’t get to work on all the half-finished paintings i have in my home. The one project I did complete was a commissioned piece for the DCR. All of the state parks in MA have “iron rangers”, or metal donation receptacles. Every year they have a call to artists to paint these rangers, in hopes that the color will draw attention to the need for donations. I submitted a design for a ranger at Natural Bridge State Park, in North Adams. I was selected! My design is inspired by Sol Lewitt, whose large body of work is on display at MassMoCA, a museum only 5 minutes away. The natural bridge is comprised of marble and stone layers. I painted an abstract version of the bridge as I though Lewitt would. The back of the ranger is inspired by his work, Wall Drawing 419.
See you in a couple weeks!
