The Morse School Art Show has an advertisement for the opening reception in this week’s Weekly Dig. Here’s what they wrote about the show:
The fine folks at Gallery 263 have an adorable tradition of taking a breather from post-pre-post-minimalist sculpture to display some local color from the Morse School. And by school, we don’t mean DuChamp and communes, we mean K-8. Teensy tiny masters get top-billing amidst finger food and claret as the turtle-necked set thoughtfully yanks at grayed goatees and considers the raw energy of “Self-portrait, married to Justin Bieber.” [263 Pearl St., Cambridge. 781.393.0000. 5:30pm/free. gallery263.com

My student teacher from the fall, Ms. Jan, has selected 8 works of art from the Morse School to be shown in the Boston University MFA Studio Teaching Exhibition. Each graduating student shows their students’ work in this show. Four second graders and four 7th graders were chosen for this special show.
The show is open from April 13-23; the opening reception is Friday, April 23 from 5:30-7:30pm.
If you’re interested, please visit! The gallery is located at 855 Comm Ave, 5th floor (directly across the BU Bridge).
Congratulations to Ms. Jan and to our 8 lucky students!
The Morse School Art Show is coming up, very soon!
If you are interested in volunteering your time during the week-long event, please contact Ms. Laplante at alaplante@cpsd.us Volunteer opportunities include: providing food and drink for the opening reception; and gallery sitting, which only requires a one hour shift of sitting in the gallery during its open hours to greet visitors.
The Special Start preschoolers came to the studio today to make a very special group mural, on canvas. Last week, they each took a photograph of the dogwood tree outside their classroom. These photos were glued on first. Then, the sponge painted stencils of springtime flowers they have been noticing on walks- crocuses, grape hyacinths, daffodils, and forsythia. Finally, tissue paper was glued on for stems and leaves. This mural will be at the Morse School Art Show at Gallery 263 in a couple weeks. Now we only need to come up with a permanent home for such a beautiful work of art?
1st and 2nd graders have been learning how to draw people in action. They’ve been posing from paintings, posing from stick people, and modeling for each other! Their goal has been to eliminate stick people from their drawings forever. In the 2nd grader’s drawings below, they had to draw themselves doing an action, using all of their limbs. 1st grade drawings will be at Gallery 263 during the Morse School Art Show.
2nd graders’ dragon drawings are on display at Rodney’s Bookstore for the month of April. Please visit! Rodney’s is located at 698 Mass Ave, in Central Square. Some drawings can be seen from the sidewalk, but there are even more inside the store.
