Egyptian Heiroglyphs April 14, 2011

The 6th graders have been studying ancient Egypt in their social studies and science classes.  They came to Art class to use heiroglyphs in a more modern art.  After creating a foam collograph tile featuring a heiroglyph of either their first or last name, the students practiced printmaking.  The students’ goal was to create a rotation around a pivot point with their tile, similar to the wings of a ceiling fan.  Using the rotation technique, the students printed an abstract pattern onto larger paper, and finished it with a little extra color!

Silkscreen names April 13, 2011

Ms. Walsh’s class had the lucky opportunity to be the first class to use my new silkscreen materials!  Their screens highlighted the first letter of their names.  I made the Morse design as my example.  We printed on colorful fabrics today, but next class we’ll print on T-shirts.

Fireflies! April 6, 2011

The kindergarteners created fireflies after reading The Very Lonely Firefly, by Eric Carle.  Using their special paper, everyone made one collaged-together firefly.  With a little magic (christmas tree lights), the fireflies are lit up in the library, indefinitely!

Seven Continents April 5, 2011

The junior kindergarteners have learned their 7 continents.  They came during Open Studio to paint the continents for a classroom display.

We just need a little more ocean so that Antarctica can fit!

After the pre-schoolers drew their flowers on the canvas, they painted tissue paper squares on top for color.  Their drawings were painted over with thick black lines.

Look for this mural at the Morse School Art Show!
